SSC SC01: Lightweight Electric Sports Car Confirmed for Europe

The SSC SC01 is set to bring a fresh approach to the electric sports car market, with the lightweight performance EV now confirmed for the European market. Inspired by classic sports car design, including styling influences from the iconic Lancia Stratos, the SC01 focuses on delivering a pure and engaging driving experience rather than relying on excessive technology and weight.
Developed through a partnership involving Chinese start-up Tianjin Gongjiangpai Auto Technology (TGAT), Xiaomi-backed investment, and JMEV, the SC01 has been engineered around lightweight performance. Weighing approximately 1,365kg, it features a spaceframe chassis, pushrod suspension, and a dual-motor electric powertrain producing 429bhp. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in around 2.9 seconds, offering sports car performance while maintaining agility and driver involvement.
Unlike many modern electric vehicles that focus heavily on screens and digital features, the SC01 takes a minimalist approach. The interior is designed around the driver, featuring traditional controls and a simple layout that puts the emphasis back on the enjoyment of driving.
The SC01 uses a 60kWh battery positioned behind the cabin, helping improve weight distribution and lowering the centre of gravity. The vehicle is expected to offer a range of around 311 miles on the CLTC testing cycle, although real-world range may vary depending on driving conditions.
With limited European production planned, the SC01 represents an exciting new addition to the electric performance car market. Combining lightweight engineering, rapid acceleration, and traditional sports car principles, it aims to prove that electric vehicles can still deliver an emotional and rewarding driving experience.
