Chinese start-up Small Sports Car (SSC) has unveiled its first production vehicle, the SC-01, an all-electric two-seat sports coupé designed to deliver an engaging and accessible driving experience. Positioned as a potential "national sports car" for China, the SC-01 combines lightweight construction, compact dimensions, and impressive performance at an expected price point of around £39,000.
Similar in size to well-known sports cars such as the Alpine A110 and Audi TT, the SC-01 weighs approximately 1,300kg and features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 429bhp. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds. The vehicle's battery is mounted behind the cabin, helping to improve weight distribution, lower the centre of gravity, and enhance overall driving dynamics.
Built around a spaceframe chassis with advanced pushrod suspension, the SC-01 has been engineered with performance and handling in mind. SSC has also taken a minimalist approach to the interior, opting for traditional controls rather than a large infotainment screen, placing the focus firmly on the driving experience.
The company claims a driving range of up to 310 miles (500km) under the NEDC testing cycle, although official WLTP figures have yet to be announced. Deliveries in China are expected to begin later this year, with all major components being manufactured domestically.
